8/14/2014:  Friends of White Flint Meeting; Wednesday, September 3rd;  6:30pm;  Georgetown Village Condominium;  Community Room

Safety for pedestrians and bicyclists is paramount in White Flint.  If we want to encourage people to get out of their cars, we need to ensure they feel safe walking and biking.  Earlier this week, a pedestrian succumbed to his injuries after being hit by a car while crossing Rockville Pike at Executive Boulevard.  Last month, a young girl was hit by a car while biking across Tuckerman Lane.  We can do better!

The White Flint Sector Plan is a 30-year endeavor but surely we cannot wait so long for improvements to our infrastructure.  So, bring yourself and your ideas to Friends of White Flint's next meeting.    Click here for more information.

8/5/2014:  It has come to the THOA board's attention that on 8/5/2014 WSSC was forcing water through the main sewer lines on at least Sugarbush Terrace and Sugarbush Lane. As a result the toilets in at least 1 house expelled water that was in the toilet onto the bathroom. We suspect other residents may come home to find water in their bathroom.   For this reason, we are providing the contact for this.  The person's name is Kofi Arthur and he works for Peer Consultants.  Kofi can be reached on 301-595-1028.

7/31/2014:  The THOA bopard has been approached by a representative from Montgomery County.  Montgomery County has done an outreach project with Stream Stewards to label storm drains in another community such as those seen at this link:   https://montgomerycountymd.mygreenmontgomery.org/2014/05/heading-aspen-hill-check-storm-drain-art/   This project is being considered for our community by the THOA board.  This would be a potential project for Tilden Middle School.  A DEP Outreach Planning Specialist, is willing to work with Tilden Middle School and Timberlawn HOA to label the storm drains.  MCPS would have to approve the project.  MCDEP would supply the paint.  Tilden Middle School and Timberlawn HOA would have to work together to supply the "artists."  So, the THOA board is seeking to understand  the community interest in this project and look for THOA volunteers.  Please contact a THOA board member if you have comments and / or are interested in volunteering.

7/31/2014:  A Notice of Pre-application meeting has been provided to THOA residence.  The meeting will take place on 8/31 @ 7 PM at the Bethesda North Marriott.  More information can be found here.

7/29/2014:  Mysterious white fluid draining into THOA streambed identified / stopped

On July 18, 2014, the Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) discovered a white substance in the stream on Timberlawn HOA property.  After searching archival records, DEP suspected the substance was originating at Tilden Middle School.

DEP tested their hypothesis by using a red, environmentally friendly dye to color the water entering the storm drain at Tilden Middle School near the loading dock.  The colored water traveled over 1000' to exit the storm drain system into the creek that flows through the Timberlawn HOA.  DEP confirmed their hypothesis and contacted the administration at Tilden
Middle School. Now that Tilden Middle School is aware of the problem and where the water goes, they will not be flushing pollutants into the storm drain.

5/30/2013:  The date for the Annual THOA meeting has been set for Monday, 9/16/2013 at 6 PM.  Please see the information below.  We are looking for a community home to use for this meeting.  The THOA board takes care of most everything for this meeting including: planning, providing extra chairs, ordering / coordinating the food, the prep and general cleanup.  We have found that if the meeting is held within our neighborhood we tend to have a better turnout.  So, if interested, please contact a board member to volunteer for this community event.

4/18/2013:  The THOA board is pleased to report that in 1Q 2013 we received reimbursements from Montgomery County that totaled $6,568.09 for monies spent to improve the streambed.  This is in addition to the $3,000 we received in 3Q 2012 for similar work efforts. While this does not cover all of the costs associated with the streambed improvement projects it goes a long way to reimbursing our community for our collective efforts.

Many thanks to Scott Davies for his tireless efforts in bringing the streambed back to health and the countless hours spent working with the County in submitting and resubmitting the required paperwork to obtain these funds.

Stay tuned as there will be several more projects scheduled in the near future. We continue to need your support to make them successful. Thanks again to everyone that has contributed to these efforts, to date.
